If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies. If they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees. Let no one go there unwarned and unprayed for. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon

A Day in China Town

...get it?  China town? a DAY? hahaha.

ahem, so anyway.

Scott's old buddy,Jason, came back into town (he graduated last year from the university Scott teaches at) and we spent one day at "Ancient Culture Street", a new "hopping" part of town.  It was a Saturday, when Eva (Joelle's Chinese teacher) comes, so we just all went together!

Getting all buckled in...

on our way!

This new part of town is decorated to look like an ancient Chinese village- it's actually a brand-new strip mall with lots of fun things to do and see- including a cotton candy man. yum.

These ladies here are worshipping.

And this is a long row of candles where people can come and burn fake paper money to give to their relatives who have already died; the money is for their dead relatives to use in the after life.

After our long morning of sight-seeing, we stopped at a very exciting, new THRILL:
Haggen-Daz.
The ice-cream is way to expensive, but we did has an iced coffee.
In the last 3 1/2 years, we haven't had ANY western restaurant in the city we lived in.
Now we have a real.life.coffee/ice cream shop. Fifteen minutes away. woohoo!!

We sat for a few minutes in the breezy shade before the down-pour of curious strangers invaded our oasis. Eva tried her best to dissuade the strangers from all the poking and prodding, but even Eva gets overwhelmed with the crowds we draw.  This picture doesn't do it justice:

This is Joelle's way of saying LEAVE ME ALONE:
I have not been handling the unwelcome touches/comments lately-- their curiosity comes across as so rude sometimes! Plus, Joelle HATES it when people come at her from all directions trying to get a photo.

BUT, I know they aren't intending to upset us, so I'm trying to find more ways of being friendly but protecting Joelle from being the brunt of jabs and stares all day.

Anyway, back to our fun-filled day...
we finished our coffee drinks and then went to lunch where Jason put his hat on Joelle and we thought it was pretty darn cute:

Ah, to have more days of just chillaxing (is that what the kids are saying these days?) with great friends!
