If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies. If they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees. Let no one go there unwarned and unprayed for. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Dominion over the Animals

Let me illuminate on my exasperation of animal protection agencies.
Sports Illustrated recently wrote an article on what happened to Michael Vick's pit bulls after they were rescued from his fighting ring. It was fascinating. Some dogs were so beyond recovery, they were put down. Others were successfully adopted into homes. Some are not able to go to a home; but at least they aren't made to fight anymore. It was sad to see how depressed it had made the animals, but I was so happy to see that there are people who want so badly to stop animal abuse. It is cruel, and I don't think God intended us to display our power over animals by hurting them.

There are so many organizations these days devoted to helping abused animals. Some are totally run on donations...In fact, I typed "Save the animals" into a search engine, and got 37,400,000 hits.

This made me wonder... of all the times I've been at Walmart and been asked to give to an organization, only two of them were efforts to collect money for a children's foundation. The rest were animal rescue efforts.

Don't get me wrong, it is very sad that species are becoming extinct and we should be good stewards of the earth.... but animals were not created in "the image of God", mankind was (Gen. 1:26,27). While to some this distinction means nothing, it is the greatest defining characteristic of human beings. Many books have been written on this subject so I won't spend too much time on it here. But John MacArthur sums it up pretty nicely:

"God created man, the supreme point of creation, in His own image; which means with self-consciousness, with personality, with rationality, with intelligence, with creativity and the capability for relationship. And then He gave man sovereignty over all the created world, and its vast and rich resources. That was the culmination. With the creation of man, then, the real story begins. Because history is not about matter; it's not about stars and planets; it's not about the earth and its topography or geography; it's not about animals. The real story is the story of man. Everything else was scenery for the story of man and his redemption." (emphasis mine)

God gave the breath of life to Adam and Eve, and sent His only Son to give his people salvation, yet our world seems more concerned with the preserving, caring, and well-being of its animals.

By the way, I typed "Stop child abuse" into the same search engine and got 8,710,000 hits. That's 28,690,000 less than "save the animals". What's wrong with this picture?
It is a sad state when money is poured into wildlife foundations, but some children are never given a home, never given medical attention and worse, are being aborted at a rate of 1.3 million a year. (http://www.prolifeaction.org/)
It is a sad state that children are homeless, sick and aborted, but animals are protected by state and federal laws.

This is the Iowa Pleistocene Snail. It is endangered. According to Iowa law, any person convicted of unlawfully selling, taking, catching, killing, injuring, destroying, or having in possession any animal listed as threatened or endangered is required to reimburse the state $1,000 per listed animal.

This is a child in the womb. There are no laws protecting this child from abortion. Later in life, there are flimsy laws that try to protect her from abuse, but not enough government money goes to enforcing those laws.

God help the nation that protects the snail, but not the child.
