12 days after Scott took Rocky to the vet to have him put down, we received a strange phone call. It was our friend. I couldn't hear what our friend was saying, but I was watching Scott's reaction. Scott stopped dead in his tracks and looked at me with big eyes. I started to panic and was saying, "what?! What???" Scott said. "Really? Are you sure? Ok, bye." At this point, I'm going crazy wanting to know what's wrong. Scott says "Umm, I'm not sure if I should tell you.... but Rocky is alive."
Long story short, a teacher of ours woefully mis-translated the vet's diagnosis. She told us the vet said "No Hope" which was not true, and so when Scott told the vet to put him down, the vet thought we were giving up on Rocky!
She took matters into her own hands, and took Rocky home for 11 days and kept him on an IV.... this whole time Scott and I grieved and really believed he was gone.
She nursed him back to health and tried her best to cure his stomach problem, and then called us to come pick him up! While we waited at the vet for her husband to bring him, you can imagine the flood of emotions.
The man stepped out of the car with Rocky and my heart was doing cartwheels! He ran to us and licked our faces- I gave the vet a huge hug and we took him home and held him all night! We kept wondering out loud, "What is going on here??" because the situation was so bizarre. We held our breath, trying not to get our hopes up that he was back for good.
After two days being back home, he stopped eating again, and didn't want to play. We took him to the vet to have him checked out again, but as soon as he saw other dogs Rocky began walking around with excitement and wagging his tail... and then when the vet offered him a hot dog, Rocky chowed down!
It was then that the vet suggested that Rocky is lonely! While he was living with the vet for 11 days, he got to play with her two dogs the whole time! ... we kicked around some ideas for how to give him time to play with other dogs. Look at the post below to see what we came up with!
We're not sure if Rocky is indeed cured of his problems, so we don't know how long he'll be with us... but we sure are sopping up every moment we have with him!
