If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies. If they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees. Let no one go there unwarned and unprayed for. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Things to do in Hong Kong: Shop 'til you Drop!

Shopping in Hong Kong is amazing! They have mega mall after mega mall and it's all too much to do in 2 1/2 days, so we took some recommendations from the Internet and hit up three places: Teleford Plaza, Mega Box and Stanley. Teleford Plaza and Mega Box are relatively close to each other in Kowloon Bay (I'm writing this mostly for my benefit, so I can remember if we ever go again) but Stanley was way at the bottom of Hong Kong Island.
Here I'm at Mega Box. We shopped at "Spotlight" (a huge A.C.Moore/ Michael's like shop), "Lovely Lace" (it carried vintage country decorations) and, B&Q (Home Depot-ish).

I'm very excited about a wooden "H" I got from Spotlight. I'll paint it the same color as our dining room "heirloom" and find a good spot for it.
Look how huge this shopping mall is. 18 stories!

The Ikea we found was at Teleford Plaza. I really enjoyed Ikea because of the low prices. We found a soft blanket, canisters for our sugar/flour, candles, shower curtain and lots of other things not found in our city.

(below)Here I am, sporting a decaf- frappe and the picture doesn't do it justice, but my ENORMOUS pony tail. Hong Kong humidity rivals that of the good 'ol south. I couldn't get a comb through it for two days.

Can you see the cruise ship behind the traffic? Walking along the bay at night was very romantic with all the lights. We decided our Hong Kong souvenirs would be Starbucks mugs that say "Hong Kong" as well as some other small places we went. (more about that later).
We brought two big suitcases with us to Hong Kong, so after we shopped so much, we had a 'fun' time packing all of our clothes and new things so that is would fit and not break. Only one thing broke... the lid to a tumbler for the bathroom. Not bad out of two suitcases filled with delicate items!
Something very strange we found about shopping... shops didn't open until 11 or 11:30 AM. The coffee and pastry shops were open very early, but inside the malls, there wasn't much to do except look in the windows!
In Stanley, we found a Yankee Candle shop... of course, we could only get one little one (what do they make them with, gold???), but it's nice to have one anyway!
All in all, we really hope to do some more shopping in Hong Kong. We've learned that you can ship almost anything by train (if the train will come all the way into our country), so if we can afford it later down the road, we'll be ordering an oven, a recliner and a bread maker we saw inside B&Q!!
