Then we sit together on the couch and get started on our quiet times. I love love love our morning ritual.
Last week I had a few days where I was just BLUE. I felt like the weight of living in China was suddenly bearing down and all the culture differences were hitting me all at the same time. One morning I woke up still inconsolably blue but I thought to myself when the alarm went off "at least I have this wonderful hot cup of coffee to look forward to".
But, what do you know? The power went off at the same time that thought popped in my mind. No coffee. No love latte. Man, I was REALLY sad after that. I kept wanting to say to God, "Are you THAT busy?" ha ha!
So I grudgingly got dressed and had my morning reading and then I prepared for my students who were coming at 10:00 am. Scott announced that he was going to do some work at the internet bar. So I gave him a sad kiss good bye and my students came soon after.
I was reviewing their conjugations ("I like. You like. He likes") and so on when I heard Scott just outside yelling "Babe! Hurry and open the door!"
???
What was he doing home? He was supposed to be at the internet bar! I told the kids to continue with their conjugations and opened the door. There he was grinning ear to ear and holding two hot cups of coffee from Dico's. (For those of you who don't know, Dico's is a good attempt at a KFC and they serve coffee in the mornings)
Scott had taken a taxi in the complete opposite direction and then come ALL THE WAY BACK HOME just to see a smile on my face. I had to ask the kids to play Jenga while I tried to stop crying and then thanked Scott with the appropriate amount of hugs and kisses.
Of course I was thrilled to have my cup of joe (otherwise I get killer head aches) but for the rest of the day when I felt the blues creep up I thought about how selfless Scott was to go so far out of his way just for a cup of coffee.... the blues haven't been back since!!
I love you, Scott. I'm so thankful for your selfless leadership!
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
