Scott and I were enjoying this:
yesterday and I had a small revelation.
Ok, wipe the drool off your face and pay attention. Yes, that's a banana chocolate chip muffin.
Yes that's a scrambled egg and cheese English muffin.
But that's not what the post is about, it's just for fun.
Stop staring at it.
I really shouldn't have shown you the picture first.
Anyway, we were sitting in Starbucks when a bomb-shell blonde walks in. Tube top, tan smooth skin, flat belly, long legs and perfectly highlighted hair, fresh lip gloss, Kate Spade purse, I mean I could go on and on.
I could feel it burning.
Jealousy.
I mean, I'm not a gotta-have-that-purse-gal, but I wouldn't say no if you gave it to me.
UGH I said to myself. I wish I still could highlight my hair, I wish I was that tan. How tall is she? Wow she's so skinny, and I've got this obvious had-a-baby-five-months-ago-belly.
Ugh, shake it off, Christine. So I just pick up my magazine. But out of the corner of my eye, I see her turn around and realize she's staring at me. I glance up at her and was surprised to see the same thing on her face that was written all over mine:
jealousy.
You know what I'm talking about. You know when you were in middle school and you had the new Polly Pocket before anyone else? We're trained at an early age to detect jealousy. She was definitely putting out the vibe.
I was so confused. I was sitting in there trying to fit into summer clothes about ten pounds too early, if you know what I mean, with my dark brown hair that doesn't help my pale complexion. Oh it's too depressing to go on about how I felt.
But then I realized she wasn't looking at ME at all. She was looking at US. My husband, with his arm around me, reading a book, and my beautiful angel baby girl sleeping soundly in my arms while I sipped coffee and read a book on Baby Sign Language.
I could sense the longing in her look, and I thought, I have nothing to be jealous of. Look at all I have.
